The 1st time i saw Tales From The Tube they were a four piece, playing a NY Dolls/Heartbreakers brand of sloppy snotty rocknroll. This would have been early '82, When i started to discover the 'underground' music scene in Brighton, going to places like the long-gone Alhambra on the seafront, Art College Basement on Marine Parade, and the new Regent, where that piece of sh*t Walkabout pub at the bottom of West Street now stands. TALES raw style appealed to me straight away and i'd go see them as often as i could. Again time is against me trying to recall some of the finer facts after all this time, but at some point they expanded to a five piece with the addition of guitarist Lloyd, who'd previously been in GUN CONTROL. Having grown out of his mohawk, Lloyd turned into a full-tilt Glam Punk prodigy, and gave TALES the proverbial shot in the arm, and their sets were always memorable hazy drunken affairs, with strong originals like "Dark Star" and "Hang 'em High" mixed with crowd pleasers "Wanna Be Your Dog" and THE HEARTBREAKERS epic "Pirate Love". As was the way back then TALES FROM THE TUBE didn't release anything and their reputation was purely a local phenomenom for the dedicated few. In '85 they bowed out in style, supporting the man himself- Johnny Thunders at the Escape club, It was a crackin gig, and a great way to say goodbye. Singer and guitarist Frazier briefly went on to front KILLER GORILLA (great name huh!) whilst drummer Ady had some success with indie rockers GOAT who had an album on Beggars Banquet in the late Eighties, before joining the TEST-TUBES for a few years during the mid Nineties.
